8-6-14: EXISTING SIGNS:
   A.   Nonconforming Signs: It is recognized that there are some signs in the village which do not conform to this chapter; such signs shall be considered as nonconforming signs. It is not the intent of this chapter to encourage their survival, but to bring such signs into conformance. Nonconforming signs are permitted to remain, subject to the following provisions:
      1.   May not be reestablished if discontinued for a period of thirty (30) days.
      2.   May not be expanded, enlarged, reerected, replaced or changed in copy.
      3.   May not be reconstructed after damage or destruction to an extent equal to or more than fifty percent (50%) of the sign's original value, as determined by the enforcement official.
      4.   May not be moved in whole or in part to another location, unless the sign is made to conform to all regulations of the sign code; and
      5.   May not be structurally altered so as to prolong the life of the sign.
This provision does not include any flags, temporary signs, banners, paper or cardboard signs or inflatable signs.
   B.   Maintenance: Normal repair and maintenance, such as painting, repair of chains, anchors and the like, shall be allowed on nonconforming signs. (Ord. O-25-98, 11-9-1998)
