5-1-8: BITER ANIMALS:
It shall be the duty and responsibility of the owner of any animal which has bitten any human being or warm blooded animal to notify the police department of such bite, and to surrender such animal to the police department, or its authorized representative, or a licensed veterinary hospital of the owner's choice, within twenty four (24) hours after the animal has bitten any person or any other animal. If, however, the police department, its authorized representative or a licensed veterinarian is presented with evidence that such animal has been inoculated against rabies within a time prescribed by law prior to the biting, the police department may order that such animal be confined in the house of its owner or in a manner which shall prohibit such animal from biting any other person or animal for a period of ten (10) days. It shall be the duty and responsibility of the owner to have such animal examined by a duly licensed veterinarian on the first, fifth and tenth day of home impoundment. (Ord. O-48-01, 11-19-2001)
