5-1-1: DEFINITIONS:
   ANIMAL: Any living vertebrate, domestic or wild, not including man.
AT LARGE: A dog, cat or other animal not on the premises of the owner, or not confined or under control by leash or other recognized methods.
   BITE: Seizure with the teeth or jaws of a warm blooded animal so that the human being or animal so seized has been nipped, gripped, wounded or pierced and further includes contact of the saliva of a warm blooded animal with any break or abrasion of the skin of another warm blooded animal or human being.
   CAT: Any live male or female cat (Felis catus).
   COOK COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR: The licensed veterinarian appointed by the board of commissioners of Cook County, pursuant to the Illinois animal control act, or his authorized representative.
   DOG: Any live male or female dog (Canis familiaris).
   DOG PARK: An enclosed area of land where dogs are permitted to be off leash.
   HOUSEHOLD PET: Any species of animals customarily regarded and generally represented as suited to live in the abode intended and used for human occupancy, unless such species shall be prohibited by any ordinance of the village, statute of the state or federal law.
   IMPOUNDED: Having been taken into custody by the village and placed in an impoundment facility so designated and approved by the village.
   KENNEL: An establishment wherein any person engages in the business of boarding, breeding, buying, letting for hire, training for a fee or selling dogs and/or cats.
   LEASH: A cord, rope, strap, or chain which shall be securely fastened to the collar or harness of a dog or other animal and shall be of sufficient strength to keep such dog or other animal under control.
   LICENSED ANIMAL: Any dog or cat four (4) months of age or older for which the owner can produce proof of having paid the license fee for the current year and on which the tag issued by the village shall be affixed to a collar or harness.
   OPERATOR: Any person who owns, operates or provides for use by patrons, a dog park.
   OWNER: Any person having a right of property in an animal who provides care, or acts as custodian for an animal, or who knowingly permits an animal to remain on or about any premises that is occupied by said person.
   PATRON: An individual who has a dog within a dog park.
   PERSON: Any individual, firm, corporation, partnership, society, association or other legal entity, any public or private institution, municipal corporation, unit of local government or any other business unit.
   PET SHOP: Any person, partnership or corporation, whether operated separately or in connection with another business enterprise, except for a licensed kennel, that buys, sells or boards any species of animal.
   RABIES VACCINATION: The injection, as approved by the department of agriculture, state of Illinois, of antirabies vaccine approved by said department, with verification thereof consisting of a current certificate and current tag issued in accord with the statutes of the state of Illinois.
   VETERINARY HOSPITAL: Any establishment maintained and operated by a licensed veterinarian for diagnosis, treatment and/or surgery of diseases and injuries of animals.
   VICIOUS ANIMAL: Any animal that constitutes, or has repeatedly demonstrated, a physical threat to human beings or other animals. (Ord. O-48-01, 11-19-2001; amd. Ord. O-33-06, 5-22-2006, eff. 6-1-2006)
