It shall be the duty of the keeper of the jail to care for all prisoners committed to the jail and to put such persons committed for a violation of a state law or local ordinance as are able to labor to the work which they are most suited; not to exceed eight (8) hours in any working day. Such person shall be allowed for each day's work exclusive of his board, the sum of five dollars ($5.00) which shall be applied to the payment of the fine and costs imposed upon such person. (Ord.
