§ 1-7.1  ATTEMPT TO COMMIT A VIOLATION OF A PROVISION OF THIS CODE.
   (a)   Any person who shall attempt to commit a misdemeanor offense prohibited by this Code, and in such attempt shall do any act towards the commission of such offense, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
   (b)   Any person convicted of attempting to violate any section of this Code may be sentenced to pay a fine of no more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) and/or imprisonment for a period of time not to exceed one-half of the greatest punishment which could have been imposed had the person been convicted of completing the crime for which attempt was charged.
