1394.03 INSTALLATIONS IN SLEEPING ROOMS OF DORMITORIES AND ROOMING HOUSES.
   Smoke detectors shall be installed in each sleeping room of a dormitory and in each sleeping room of a residential building which is used as a rooming and/or boarding house or as a dormitory.

1394.04 INSTALLATIONS IN DWELLING UNITS.
   Smoke detectors shall be installed in all dwelling units in the immediate vicinity of, but outside of, all sleeping rooms.

1394.05 INSTALLATIONS IN COMMON AREAS.
   In all residential buildings housing three or more dwelling units, smoke detectors shall be installed in all common hallways on each level, in each common laundry room, in each common sitting or similar room and in each common basement or cellar, in addition to the smoke detectors required by Section 1394.04. If such basement or cellar is subdivided, at least one smoke detector shall be installed in each section of such basement or cellar.

1394.06 ANNUNCIATOR PANELS.
   In all existing residential buildings of more than five stories and in all residential buildings of more than four stories which are constructed after the effective date of this chapter (Ordinance 84-116, passed May 21, 1984), smoke detectors in all areas other than individual dwelling units shall be connected to an annunciator panel, and such panel shall provide an indication of the floor on which the smoke detector was activated. The activation of any smoke detector connected to the annunciator panel shall cause the sounding of alarm devices on each floor simultaneously. This system shall be connected directly to the fire alarm monitoring panel at the Headquarters Fire Station or to a central station which is a part of an alarm system business which intercepts signals indicating the activation of an alarm device and which relays this information by live voice to the Fire Division.

1394.07 VISIBLE DEVICES FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED.
   In all residential buildings noted in Section 1394.06 which house persons who are hearing impaired, both visible and audible alarm devices shall be provided.

1394.08 DETECTOR SPECIFICATIONS.
   Smoke detectors shall meet the requirements of NFiPA 72E (1982) and NFiPA 74 (1980).
