8-1-15: TEMPORARY PARKING PERMITS FOR PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED PERSONS:
   (A)   Applications for temporary parking permits for motor vehicles used by or for persons having temporary handicaps which impair their ability to walk, may be made through the Motor Vehicle Division of the Elko County Assessor's Office (hereinafter referred to as the "Motor Vehicle Division").
   (B)   Upon receipt of a completed application for a temporary parking permit on a form for that purpose supplied by the Motor Vehicle Division, together with a written statement from the applicant's treating physician which states the nature of the disability, the length of time the disability is expected to last, and that the disability impairs the applicant's ability to walk, the Motor Vehicle Division shall issue a temporary parking permit for a period of time not to exceed ninety (90) days. The Motor Vehicle Division may demand such additional supporting documents or information as it deems appropriate prior to issuing the temporary parking permit.
   (C)   Except as provided in subsection (F), owners of motor vehicles displaying a temporary parking permit issued pursuant to this Section may park such motor vehicles for not more than four (4) hours at any one time in controlled parking zones restricted as to the length of time parking is permitted, without penalty, if such parking is otherwise consistent with public safety.
   (D)   A temporary parking permit issued pursuant to this Section may be renewed for an additional period or periods of time not to exceed ninety (90) days per renewal upon submission to the Motor Vehicle Division of a supplemental statement by the applicant's treating physician which contains the information required by subsection 8-1-15(B) of this Code.
   (E)   No person, other than the physically handicapped person or a person actually transporting the physically handicapped person, may use the temporary parking permit issued to the handicapped person for the purpose of obtaining the special parking privileges available under this Section. A violation of this subsection shall be punished as a misdemeanor under Section 7-1-25 of this Code.
   (F)   This Section does not authorize the parking of a motor vehicle in any privately or publicly owned parking space without paying the required fee for the time during which such vehicle is so parked. (Ord. 1988-E, 7-20-88, eff. 8-1-88)
