Under the direction of the Director of Public Safety, the Chief of the Fire Division shall inspect or cause to be inspected the various buildings, structures and premises, other than private homes, in the City, to ascertain whether proper precautions have been taken for the protection of life and property and the prevention of fires. If he finds that conditions are caused or permitted to exist which are dangerous and in his opinion are likely to cause injury or loss of property or life, or a fire in any such buildings, structures or premises so inspected he shall order the owner, tenant, person in possession or control thereof, or the agent for the property to correct and rectify the condition within a reasonable time, which time shall be stated in the order, and the person so ordered shall comply with or cause the order to be complied with, without delay.
However, within the discretion of the inspecting officer, the time for compliance with any order issued by him may be, by him, extended by written order, which shall state the date to which the order is extended.
Any order under this section may be appealed to the Director of Public Safety and he shall, within a reasonable period of time, make a final decision of that appeal.
