As used in this chapter:
(a) "Person" means an individual, association of individuals, partnership, corporation, society and Massachusetts or common-law trust.
(b) "Peddle" means to sell and make immediate delivery, or offer for sale and immediate delivery, any goods, wares or merchandise in possession of the seller, at any place within the City other than from a fixed place of business.
(c) "Peddler" means any person who peddles, as defined in subsection (b) hereof.
(d) "Solicit" means to sell or take orders, or offer to sell or take orders for goods, wares or merchandise for future delivery, or for services to be performed at any place within the City other than a fixed place of business.
(e) "Solicitor" means any person who solicits, as defined in subsection (d) hereof.
(f) "Canvasser" means any person, whether a resident of the City or not, including an employee or agent of another, travelling either by foot, automobile, truck or some other type of conveyance, who engages in the practice of going door-to-door, house-to-house or along any streets within the City:
(1) Selling or taking orders for or offering to sell or take orders for goods, merchandise, wares or other items of value for present or future delivery or services to be performed in the future for commercial purposes.
(2) Requesting contribution of funds, property or anything of value, or the pledge of any type of future donation, or selling or offering without remuneration, any type of property, including but not limited to goods, tickets, books or pamphlets for charitable, religious or other noncommercial purposes.
(g) "Canvassing activities" means the practices of canvassers as listed in subsection (f) hereof.
(h) "Charitable organization" means a nonprofit charitable, benevolent, philanthropic, patriotic, educational, religious or eleemosynary organization.
