A. Elected: The mayor and council members shall be elected in an at large municipal election held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, of each odd-numbered year as provided in Utah Code Annotated title 10, chapter 3.
B. Notice Of Election: On or before May 1 in a year in which there is a municipal general election, the city recorder shall publish a notice that identifies the municipal offices to be voted on in the municipal election and the dates for filing a declaration of candidacy. The city recorder shall publish the notice on the Utah Public Notice Website and in at least one of the following ways:
1. At city hall;
2. In the city newsletter;
3. On the city's website; or
4. With a city utility enterprise fund customer's bill.
C. Procedure: The municipal elections and primary elections for mayor and council members shall be conducted in the manner provided for in title 20A of the Utah Code Annotated, as amended.
D. Districts: The city council, for purposes of an election, may combine two (2) or more regular Salt Lake County voting precincts into one (1) Draper City voting precinct for purposes of an election by designating the location and address of that combined voting precinct. If only two (2) precincts are combined, the polling place shall be within the combined precinct or within one half (1/2) mile of the boundaries of the combined voting precinct. If more than two (2) precincts are combined, the polling place shall be as near as practical to the middle of the combined precinct.
E. Primary Elections: No primary elections shall be held for the offices of mayor or city council members and all openings for such offices shall be filled at the November general municipal election of Draper City, unless:
1. The number of candidates exceeds twice the number of offices to be filled; or
2. A primary election is otherwise required by law, in which cases a primary election shall be held in the manner provided in Utah Code Annotated section 20A-9-404, as amended. (Ord. 1280, 1-9-2018; amd. Ord. 1413, 2-11-2020; Ord. 1489, 5-4-2021)
