A. Every permit issued shall become invalid unless the work authorized by such permit is commenced within one hundred eighty (180) days after its issuance.
B. A permit shall become invalid if work authorized by the permit is suspended or abandoned for a period of one hundred eighty (180) days after the time the work is commenced. The City may declare the permit abandoned if no inspections have been requested or made for a period of one hundred eighty (180) days or longer, unless an extension has been approved. Prior to declaring the permit abandoned, the City shall notify the applicant by certified mail of the pending abandonment and allow fourteen (14) working days for the applicant to provide proof, to the City's satisfaction, that work has not been abandoned.
C. The building official is authorized to grant in writing up to two (2) extensions of time, for periods of not more than one hundred eighty (180) days each, provided a written request for an extension is submitted by the applicant or representative prior to the expiration date and justifiable cause is demonstrated.
D. The granting of a permit shall not relieve the applicant of the requirements to meet any other codes or ordinances of the City, State, Federal government, or other jurisdictions. The permit shall not be construed to authorize the violation of any provisions of this Code. (Ord. 154, 12-14-2017, eff. 1-1-2018)
