If any provision of this article or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held unlawful or otherwise invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of this article which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end each such invalid provision or application of this article is severable from the remainder of this article.
