(a) Every appointive officer or employee of the Village shall hold such office or employment position for an indefinite term unless it is otherwise provided by statute or ordinance.
(b) Employees shall be selected on the basis of demonstrated ability, experience and training and without regard to political belief or affiliation and without regard to race, religion, sex, national origin and ancestry and shall serve so long as their services are required, and they adequately perform their duties.
