1329.14 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS USING CITY WATER.
Regulations governing minimum requirements for air conditioning systems and equipment using City water supply shall be as follows:
(a) The use of water is prohibited when used directly from the mains as a cooling medium in air washers or any type of equipment whereby the air to be conditioned comes into contact with sprays or wet surfaces, or where the water is used as the direct or indirect cooling medium in coils.
(b) The use of water is prohibited in all compressor type refrigeration units having standard rated capacities of one and one-half tons or less.
(c) All compressor type refrigeration units having standard rated capacities of from one and one-half tons to ten tons may be equipped with water-cooled condensers using water from the mains, provided that no more than one such unit with such capacity and so equipped may be used in an air conditioning or refrigerating system, except for emergency standby purposes.
(d) All compressor type refrigeration units having standard rated capacities of ten tons or over shall be equipped with evaporative coolers and condensers, water cooling towers, spray ponds or other water cooling equipment so that all water from the mains is used for make-up purposes only.
(e) If other than compressor types of refrigeration units are used, the consumption of water from the mains shall be limited in amount to not more per ton of refrigeration produced than would be used by the compressor type described in subsections (c) and (d) hereof when such type is operated under normal conditions. In all cases, the maximum consumption is restricted to one gallon per minute per equivalent ton of refrigeration.
(f) All air conditioning and refrigeration coils or condensers using water directly from the mains shall be equipped with a thermostatic water regulating valve which shall automatically limit the flow of water so that water flowing to the sewer shall have a minimum temperature of eighty-five degrees. This temperature shall be subject to check by the Building Official at any time and piping shall be so arranged that an ordinary thermometer can be used.
(g) Make-up water connections to a water conservative device shall be arranged so that the supply has a physical break between the City water main and such device, so it will be impossible for water to siphon back in case of low pressure in the City water main.
