1327.06 ELECTRIC WIRING.
   (a)    Electrical wiring shall be in conduit or electrical metallic tubing (E.M.T.) except:
      (1)    Where it is impractical due to sharp turns and similar physical conditions where flexible metal conduit may be used; and
      (2)    In one or two-family dwellings and row houses and apartment buildings not more than three stories high containing not more than six dwelling units separated from other dwelling units by a two-hour fire wall or separated by ten feet of yard space from adjacent buildings or lot lines.
   (b)    Armoured cable is not permitted for any type of electrical wiring.
   (c)    The installation of aluminum nonmetallic cable shall not be permitted.
   (d)   All underground wiring on commercial or industrial properties shall be installed in an approved raceway.

   (e)    Electric Wiring. The minimum electric wiring system for existing one, two and three family residences shall conform to N.E.C. as amended hereafter; and shall be applicable to an existing structure at the time it is retrofitted with new wiring or service entrance or when deemed unsafe and hazardous by the local inspection authority and requiring service disconnection.
      (1)   Service entrance.
         A.   Where a 15-30-60 ampere service exists in a residence, a one hundred (100 ampere) (3 wire) service with a main breaker and 16 circuits shall be installed.
      (2)   Receptacles.
         A.   Minimum Requirement. Habitable rooms shall contain at least two wall type convenience outlets located on opposite walls or as otherwise permitted by local inspection authority, but in no case shall more outlets than required by the National Electrical Code be required. Living rooms shall have four duplex receptacles to supply appliances used therein unless a specific exemption is granted. Bathrooms shall have at least one GFCI-controlled receptacle.
         B.   New Outlets. New outlets installed on new wiring shall be of the grounded type.
         C.   Existing Outlets. Existing electrical outlets which are installed in a workmanlike manner, with approved materials, and with proper circuitry shall be permitted. Existing ungrounded outlets may be replaced with new ungrounded devices. Existing outlets in unfinished basements, outdoors, and outbuildings, shall have ground fault circuit protection.
      (3)   Lighting.
         A.   When ceiling light fixtures are or have been replaced, boxes or loompans shall be used.
         B.   Existing or replacement non-metallic bathroom and kitchen fixtures need not be grounded if connected to original wiring.
         C.   Existing closet lights shall comply with 410-08-B.
         D   The following habitable rooms and areas shall contain at least one wall switch-controlled lighting outlet, with the wall switch located within three feet of the door:
            Kitchen         Also,   Stairways
            Bathrooms         Hallways
            Dining Room          Exterior Entrance
            Bedrooms
            Living Room
         E.   The following areas may contain pull chain lighting fixtures:
            Storage rooms          Attic areas
            Furnace rooms          Utility rooms
            Laundry rooms         Basement rooms
      (4)   Special circuits.   
         A.   Kitchen Circuits. Kitchens shall have at least three grounding type duplex receptacles, on no less than two 20 ampere circuits. One circuit shall supply power for at least one counter top receptacle. Fixed appliances shall be circuited accordingly, and properly grounded. Existing ungrounded receptacles within six feet of the kitchen sink, shall be GFCI protected.
         B.   Laundry Circuit. Single family residences shall have a separate 20 ampere grounded circuit for a laundry receptacle, where laundry facilities exist.
         C.   Furnace Circuit. A minimum of one 15 ampere separate circuit shall be provided for the heating system, when the system requires an electric circuit. No other load shall be connected to this circuit. The heating system may include furnace, humidifier and electronic filter.
      (5)   Installation. Equipment fixtures and work shall be in accordance with requirements of the National Electrical Code as currently adopted by the City. (Ord. 35-1995. Passed 3-13-95.)
      (6)   Knob and tube wiring. All original knob and tube branch circuit wiring shall be reconnected on 15 ampere circuits, and any tampered wire shall have its original insulation quality replaced. Remove all exposed knob and tube wiring in basements to the point where it is connected to refeed risers.
      (7)   Fuse. If Edison Base fuse holders are used, they shall be fitted with type "S" fuse adaptors and fuse stats.
      (8)   Outbuildings. Attached and unattached buildings (with wiring) on the same premises shall meet the requirements of the local code. If unattached and inoperative, the wiring shall be removed.
      (9)   Smoke detectors. Smoke detectors must be installed according to local code.
