Section 9. Mayor to preside in absence of city judge; vacancy. 
Be it further enacted, that in the event of the absence, incompetency, or other disability of the city judge, the mayor is hereby authorized and empowered to act in his stead, and while so acting he shall be invested with the same powers and shall perform the same duties hereby bestowed and imposed upon the presiding officer of the court. In the event the office shall become vacant for any cause, the City Council shall elect some suitable person to fill out the unexpired term. (As amended by Priv. Acts 1972, ch. 416, sec. 21, Priv.
