§ 74.08 REGISTRATION PLATES; VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION.
   (A)   Registration plates.
      (1)   Registration plates issued for a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle, trailer, semi-trailer or truck-tractor shall be attached thereto, one in the front and one in the rear.
      (2)   The registration plate issued for a motorcycle, trailer or semi-trailer shall be attached to the rear thereof.
      (3)   The registration plate issued for a truck-tractor shall be attached to the front thereof.
      (4)   Every registration plate shall, at all times, be securely fastened in a horizontal position to the vehicle for which it is issued so as to prevent the plate from swinging and at a height of not less than 12 inches from the ground, measuring from the bottom of the plate, in a place and position to be clearly visible and shall be maintained free from foreign materials and all in a condition to be clearly legible.
   (B)   Identification on second division vehicles. No second division vehicle shall be operated upon public ways unless there is painted or otherwise firmly affixed to the vehicle on both sides thereof, in a color or colors vividly contrasting to the color of the vehicle, the name and address of the owner thereof and the maximum empty weight of the vehicle.
