§ 74.02 LIGHTS AND REFLECTORS.
   (A)   General requirements.
      (1)   When, upon any highway in the state, every motorcycle shall at all times exhibit at least one lighted lamp showing a white light, commonly known as a driving lamp, visible for at least 500 feet in the direction the motorcycle is proceeding. All other motor vehicles shall, during the period from sunset to sunrise, or at any other time when visibility is so limited as to require the use of lights for safety, exhibit two lighted driving lamps showing white lights or lights of a yellow or amber tint, visible for at least 500 feet in the direction the motor vehicle is proceeding. Parking lamps may be used in addition to, but not in lieu of any driving lamps. Every motor vehicle, trailer or semi-trailer shall also exhibit at least two lighted lamps, commonly known as taillamps, which shall be mounted on the left rear and right rear of the vehicle so as to throw a red light visible for at least 500 feet in the reverse direction; except that, a motorcycle or a truck tractor or road tractor manufactured before 1-1-1968, need be equipped with only one lamp.
      (2)   Either a taillamp or a separate lamp shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white light a rear registration plate when required and render it clearly legible from a distance of 50 feet to the rear. Any taillamp or taillamps, together with any separate lamp or lamps for illuminating a rear registration plate, shall be so wired as to be lighted whenever the driving lamps or auxiliary driving lamps are lighted.
      (3)   Every motor vehicle, trailer or semi-trailer shall be equipped with at least one lamp so situated as to throw a red light visible for at least 300 feet in the reverse direction whenever the brakes, as required in § 74.03 are put into operation.
   (B)   Spot lamps. Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed one spot lamp, and every lighted spot lamp shall be so aimed and used upon approaching another vehicle that no part of the high-intensity portion of the beam will be directed to the left of the prolongation of the extreme left side of the vehicle nor more than 100 feet ahead of the vehicle.
   (C)   Colored lights; flashing lights.
      (1)   Restrictions generally.
         (a)   No person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment upon any roadway with any lamp or device thereon displaying a red light visible from directly in front thereof.
         (b)   Flashing lights are prohibited on motor vehicles, except as a means for indicating a right or left turn, stop or emergency.
         (c)   No spot light mounted on any vehicle, whether the spot light is in operating condition or not, shall be equipped with a lens or other device which would, if the spot light were operated, show a light other than a white light.
         (d)   Except as authorized by law, no person shall drive any vehicle displaying a blue light thereon, and any person violating this division shall be punished as provided in § 70.99. The provisions of divisions (C)(1)(a), (b) and (c) above shall not apply to authorized emergency vehicles; the provisions of divisions (C)(1)(a), (b) and (c) above shall not apply to vehicles operated by, or on behalf of, the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency of the village or any other authorized emergency unit; the provisions of paragraph d above shall not apply to members of the Village Police or Fire Departments or to the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency of the village.
      (2)   Emergency services and disaster agency vehicles.
         (a)   Special amber-colored lights are permitted upon privately owned vehicles operated within the village by or on behalf of the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency of the village of a design, type and location as authorized by the Coordinator of the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency.
         (b)   Special red-colored lights are permitted on single-lighted vehicles owned by the village and operated by or on behalf of the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency of the village of a design, type and location as authorized by the Coordinator of the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency and as permitted by applicable state statutes, the State Motor Vehicle Code and the State Emergency Services and Disaster Agency.
         (c)   Special red- and/or blue-colored lights are permitted in multi-lighted vehicles, owned by the village and operated by or on behalf of, the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency of the village of a design, type and location as authorized by the Coordinator of the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency and as permitted by applicable state statutes, the State Motor Vehicle Code and the State Emergency Services and Disaster Agency.
   (D)   Lights on parked vehicles.
      (1)   Whenever a vehicle is lawfully parked at nighttime upon any lighted street within a business or residence district, no lights need be displayed upon the parked vehicle.
      (2)   Whenever a vehicle is parked upon an unlighted street or highway during the hours of one hour after sunset and one-half hour before sunrise, the vehicle shall be equipped with one or more lamps which shall exhibit a white light on the roadway side visible from a distance of 500 feet to the front of the vehicle and a red light visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear.
      (3)   Any lighted headlamps upon a parked vehicle shall be depressed or dimmed.
   (E)   Lights on trailers.
      (1)   Every trailer having a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or less, including the weight of the trailer and maximum load, shall be equipped with two lighted lamps, one on each side of the rear of the trailer, which shall be so situated as to throw a red light visible for at least 500 feet in the reverse direction.
      (2)   Every trailer having a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or less, including the weight of the trailer and maximum load, towed either by a motor vehicle of the first division or a motor vehicle of the second division shall be equipped with two red reflectors, which will be visible when hit by headlight beams 300 feet away at night, on the rear of the body of the trailer not more than 12 inches from the lower left-hand and right-hand corners.
   (F)   Lights on nonmotorized vehicles. All nonmotor-driven vehicles, except as otherwise provided by this chapter, including animal-drawn vehicles while being operated on the roadway between the period of sunset to sunrise, shall at all times be equipped with at least one lighted lamp or lantern exhibiting a white light visible from a distance of 500 feet to the front of the vehicle and with a lamp or lantern exhibiting a red light visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear.
