4-3-7: TRUANTS:
   A.   Liability Of Minor: Any minor between the ages of seven (7) and seventeen (17) years shall attend some public school in the district wherein the minor resides the entire time it is in session during the regular school term, except as provided in sections 10-19.1 and 26-1 of the Illinois school code 1 .
A minor between the ages of thirteen (13) and seventeen (17) years who is subject to the above compulsory school attendance and who is absent without valid cause from such attendance for a school day or portion thereof shall be subject to a fine of one hundred dollars ($100.00), or community service, or both.
   B.   Liability Of Guardian: Whoever has custody or control of any child between the ages of seven (7) and seventeen (17) years (unless the child has already graduated from high school) shall cause such child to attend some public school in the district wherein the child resides the entire time it is in session during the regular school term, except as provided in sections 10-19.1 and 26-1 of the Illinois school code 2 .
The parent, guardian or custodian of a minor between the ages of seven (7) and twelve (12) years who is subject to the above compulsory school attendance and who is absent without valid cause from such attendance for a school day or portion thereof shall be subject to a fine of one hundred dollars ($100.00), or community service, or both.
   C.   Wilful Truancy: Any person having custody or control of a minor between the ages of seven (7) and seventeen (17) years subject to the provisions of this section to whom notice has been given of the child's truancy and who knowingly and wilfully permits such a child to persist in his truancy within that school year shall be subject to a fine of one hundred dollars ($100.00).
   D.   Definition: As used in this section, "valid cause" for absence shall be illness, observance of a religious holiday, death in the immediate family, family emergency, and shall include such other situations beyond the control of the student as determined by the board of education in each district, or such other circumstances which cause reasonable concern to the parent for the safety or health of the student.
