An automatic sprinkler system shall be installed according to NFPA Standard 13-1979 as follows in all ordinary or high hazard areas. In light hazard occupancies a life-safety hydraulically designed sprinkler system may be used as approved.
(a) Throughout the building, except in areas exempted in subsection (b) hereof.
(b) Exemptions to sprinkler placement:
Sprinklers shall be omitted in the following areas of Type I and II construction in light hazard occupancies:
(1) Exemptions:
A. In closets, other than walk-in, where the closet is protected from the exterior by a sidewall or standard mounted sprinkler head.
B. In bathrooms, lavatories and therapeutic bath areas where walls, floors and ceilings are of noncombustible materials.
C. In Type I and II corridors of noncombustible construction.
D. In other areas where construction is noncombustible and anticipated fuel loads do not constitute a fire/smoke/toxic gas hazard to occupants as determined by the fire authority having jurisdiction.
(2) Where corridor ventilation air for smoke control systems is used, a single line of wall mounted sprinklers recessed inside and above each corridor door on the occupied area side may be used in lieu of corridor sprinklers.
