The following days of the year shall be holidays insofar as the administration
of personnel matters is concerned, and the term holidays shall be construed to
mean the following days:
January 1
Third Monday in January
Third Monday in February
Last Monday in May
Fourth of July
First Monday in September
Second Monday in October
November Eleventh
Fourth Thursday in November
Friday after Fourth Thursday in November
Twenty-fifth day of December
Employee's birthday
One-half day on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve as determined by the department head.
One-half day on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. (AFSCME only).
In the event any of the above mentioned holidays falls on Sunday and the same is officially observed on the next succeeding day, holiday, as used in this section, applies to such succeeding day of observance. In the event that any of the aforesaid holidays should fall on Saturday, the Friday immediately preceding shall be observed as the holiday. In the case of members of the Police and Fire Departments and shift workers, compensatory time off shall be granted so as to provide all personnel with a total of twelve and one-half paid holidays. No employee shall receive pay for a holiday unless he works the day before and the day after such holiday. However, if either of these two days is included in the regular time off for shift work or is either vacation time, sick leave or an excused absence, it shall be excepted.
