Their term of office shall be (except when to fill vacancies) for four years, and until their successors elected and qualified, as herein provided; except that the election to be held the fourth Thursday in May, nineteen hundred ninety nine, there shall be one Councilperson from the first, second, third and fourth wards, their terms of office shall be for four years.
Bi-annually thereafter, on the fourth Thursday of May, there shall be elected one Councilperson from each ward, to be voted for throughout the town as hereinbefore provided. The Mayor shall be elected on the fourth Thursday in May, 2001 and every four years thereafter on such Thursday. The Mayor and members of Council elected in May, 1998 shall continue in office until their successors are elected in May, 2001. (Enacted 9-21-98.)
