104.01 REDISTRICTING OF CITY WARDS AND CERTIFICATION OF CITY WARD MAP.
   (a)   Upon the acceptance of adjusted Jefferson County voting precinct lines by the Jefferson County Commission, the City shall determine the need for the redistricting of City wards, based on the adjustment of County voting precincts and/or the population distribution within the limits of the City of Charles Town. City ward boundaries shall coincide with Jefferson County voting precinct lines as nearly as possible, provided that the population total within each ward deviates no more than 10% of one-quarter of the total population of the City of Charles Town, as determined by the most recent U.S. Census numbers. City administration shall prepare an updated City ward map for presentation to the Charles Town City Council.
   (b)   If the deviation in each City ward is 10% or less of one-quarter of the total population of the City of Charles Town, as determined by the most recent U.S. Census, the Charles Town City Council shall certify the ward map and instruct the City Clerk to affix the City seal to the map. If a deviation of more than 10% of one-quarter of the total population of the City of Charles Town exists in any one City ward, the Charles Town City Council shall direct City administration to prepare an updated City ward map, and present to the Charles Town City Council for approval and affixation of the City seal. Upon approval and fixation of the City seal to the City ward map, the City Clerk’s office shall maintain the current ward map and make it available to the public. (Passed 10-20-14)
