§ 8-11 Erection of Non-Conforming Traffic Control Devices.
   (a)   In addition to all other restrictions and requirements contained in any applicable law, ordinance, rule or regulation regarding traffic control devices, and effective on and after May 1, 2002, no street sign or other traffic control device shall be erected on or for any street or other public thoroughfare within the corporate limits of the City, unless it is specifically recognized by and in strict conformance with the specifications and standards set forth in the State of Indiana "Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices" or the U.S. Federal Highway Administration's "Traffic Control Devices Handbook," as the same may be amended from time to time.
   (b)   The Board of Public Works and Safety, with the concurrence of the City Engineer and the City Attorney, may, by written resolution:
      (1)   Permit the erection of a traffic control device that does not meet the standards and specifications described in subsection (a) above; and/or
      (2)   Require the removal of any traffic control device erected prior to May 1, 2002, which, on or after May 1, 2002, does not meet such standards and specifications.
   (c)   Notwithstanding any other provision of this section, no traffic control device that has been specifically approved by ordinance for placement in or on a public right-of-way located within the city's corporate limits shall be subject to removal pursuant to subsection (b) hereunder.
