6-2-17: DISPOSITION OF UNCLAIMED, UNREDEEMED OR INFECTED ANIMALS:
It shall be the duty of the animal control officer to keep all animals impounded under the provisions of this chapter for a period of not less than five (5) days, unless sooner redeemed, released by the owner or disposed of pursuant to this chapter. If at the expiration of five (5) days from the date of notice to the owner or the posting of notice any animal is unclaimed it may be adopted as herein provided and if no person requests to adopt such animal under the procedures herein provided, such animal may be destroyed in a humane manner. Any animal which appears to be suffering from rabies, mange, or other infections or dangerous disease shall not be released but may be forthwith destroyed by humane means.
