(a) A key box shall be installed in an approved location at all occupancies with a fire alarm system, automatic sprinkler system, or fire suppression system, or any other type of fire protection system that results in a notification to the Fire Department of an activation of that system. The key box shall be of an approved type and shall contain keys to gain necessary access as required by the Fire Chief or his authorized representative.
(b) The person in control of the property shall immediately notify the Fire Chief or his authorized representative and provide the new key when a lock is changed or rekeyed. In the event the Fire Department responds to a call where a key box is installed and the access keys do not function properly, the person in control of the property shall be fined fifty dollars ($50.00) for the first offense and one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each subsequent offense.
