§ 38.06 INCLUSIVE INTERPRETATION OF RACE AND SEX DISCRIMINATION IN ASSISTING RESIDENTS WITH DISCRIMINATION CLAIMS IN HOUSING AND IN GENERAL.
   (A)   With respect to housing discrimination claims filed with the North Carolina Human Relations Commission, the town interprets the prohibition on race discrimination in housing to include discrimination on the basis of protected hairstyles.
   (B)   With respect to housing discrimination claims filed with the North Carolina Human Relations Commission, the town interprets the prohibition on sex discrimination in housing to include discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
   (C)   The North Carolina State Fair Housing Act is used in this instance, in part, for illustrative purposes. The town will interpret all legal prohibitions on race discrimination to include discrimination on the basis of protected hairstyles. The town will interpret all legal prohibitions on sex discrimination to include discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

§ 38.07 CONCILIATION BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES COMMISSION.
   The town's Human Resources Commission may accept, investigate, and seek conciliation of complaints of violations of this chapter.

§ 38.08 PENALTIES AND ENFORCEMENT.
   In addition to or in lieu of other remedies available by law, any person violating any provision of this chapter may be subject to an enforcement action brought by the town under G.S. § 160A-175(d) and (e) for an appropriate equitable remedy, including but not limited to a mandatory or prohibitory injunction commanding the defendant to correct the conduct prohibited under this chapter. This chapter is not intended to limit the remedies available to any person under state or federal law.

§ 38.09 COMPLIANCE WITH LAWS.
   Nothing in this chapter shall be interpreted or applied so as to create any requirement, power or duty in conflict with any existing federal or state law or either the federal or state constitutions.
