Division 1. General Provisions
In order to comply with the fair labor standards act of the federal government and the minimum wage laws of the state, the city council does hereby convert the basis of pay for employees of the police and fire departments of the city, from a monthly salary, to an hourly rate, with all such employees to be paid one and one-half (1½) times the rate or hourly rate for each hour worked in excess of forty (40) per week.

(A) All appointments of policemen or firemen, except chiefs and assistant chiefs, should be within the classifications set out in Chapter 23 and § 22.101, and the hourly rates shall be the amounts as specified for each classification.
(B) The mayor may, at his discretion, appoint all policemen and firemen from the same classification, or they may be appointed from any combination of classifications.

All persons employed by the city for the police department or fire department shall be hired subject to the provisions and conditions contained in any rules and regulations of the employees manual now in use or which might be adopted by council in the future for the respective departments.
