§ 90.24 RABIES VACCINATION.
   (A)   No person shall own, keep, or harbor any dog or cat over four (4) months of age for more than thirty (30) days within the City of Ashland unless such dog or cat is vaccinated and licensed. The provisions of this section do not apply to animals owned by a licensed research facility or held in a veterinary medical facility or government operated or licensed animal shelter, or a non-resident keeping a dog or cat within the City of Ashland for no longer than sixty (60) days.
   (B)   All dogs and cats shall be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian or other qualified person, in accordance with the latest "Compendium of Animal Rabies Vaccines and Recommendations for Immunization" published by the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians. Proof of vaccination shall be provided to the Animal Control Officer upon demand within a reasonable time period or in no case later than five (5) days after such demand.
   (C)   A certificate of vaccination shall be issued to the owner of each animal vaccinated on a form recommended by the Compendium. Each owner shall also receive a durable vaccination tag indicating the year in which it was issued.
   (D)   The Animal Control Officer may issue a violation in the amount of ten dollars ($10.00) payable to the City Cashier within five (5) working days to any owner who violates the provisions of this section. If the violation is not paid within five (5) working days, a citation will be issued. The citation will be prosecuted as a violation under the provisions of KRS 534.040.
