§ 2-1.203 SETTING AND PAYMENT OF SALARY.
   Each member of the Council shall receive as salary the sum of money as prescribed in Cal. Gov’t Code § 36516 for cities of more than 75,000 in population and up to and including 150,000 in population, which salary shall be payable from and after the operative date of this article at the same time and in the same manner as salaries are paid to other officers and employees of the city.

§ 2-1.204 INCREASES AND DECREASES.
   Following any new and later estimate of population made by the State Department of Finance placing the city in a population group other than that set forth in § 2-1.203 of this article, the salary payable to each member of the Council shall be increased or decreased accordingly to equal the sum prescribed for that population group in Cal. Gov't Code § 36516, as amended by Chapter 100 of the Statutes of 1984; provided, however, the salary so increased or decreased shall become payable only on and after the date upon which one or more members of the Council become eligible therefor by virtue of beginning a new term of office following the next succeeding general municipal election held in the city.

§ 2-1.205 EFFECT OF STATE LEGISLATION.
   Any subsequent legislation by the State Legislature shall not be interpreted as increasing the salaries to be paid to members of the Council by virtue of this article unless and until the Council duly adopts an ordinance or an amendment to an ordinance in accordance therewith.

§ 2-1.206 COUNCIL MEMBER SALARY; OPERATIVE DATE.
   Pursuant to Cal. Gov’t Code § 36516, the salary for each member of the City Council is hereby set at $1,600.04 per month. The provisions of this section shall become operative on January 1, 2021.

§ 2-1.207 SALARY DURING AN EXTENDED ABSENCE.
   If a City Council member has not vacated his or her office under state law, but is absent from his or her duties or absent from the city for more than one month for reasons not related to the Council member’s own medical condition, then the Council member shall not be entitled to the monthly salary during the period of absence. The Council member shall also not be entitled to any car or communications allowance set forth in an adopted policy during the period of absence.

ARTICLE 3: ELECTIONS
§ 2-1.301 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
   General municipal elections shall be held on the same day as the day of state-wide general elections. Those elected city officers, whose four year terms of office would have expired prior to the adoption of this section on the Tuesday succeeding the second Tuesday in April of an even-numbered year, shall continue, instead, in their offices until no later than the fourth Tuesday after the day of the general municipal election as established by this section. This section is enacted pursuant to authority contained in Cal. Gov't Code § 36503.5, and all procedures established by such law shall be followed so as to implement the provisions of this section.
