§ 18-138. NOTICE TO PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT.
   Notice shall be given by the Chief of Police to the State Department of Public Safety within 72 hours of the date of removal identifying the abandoned vehicle or part thereof. The notice of removal shall contain the name and address of the owner, if known, the make, model, vehicle identification number, registration number, date stored, place stored, and the officer’s estimated value. Upon receipt of such notice of removal, the State Department of Public Safety must promptly request the State Tax Commission or other appropriate motor license agent to furnish the name and address of the owner of and any lienholder on the vehicle and must, within five days from receipt of the requested information, send a notice to the owner and any lienholder by regular mail, postage prepaid, at the addresses furnished by the State Tax Commission or motor license agent, of the vehicle’s location. This section shall not be construed to create any civil liability upon the state or city, any agency of the state or city, or employee thereof for failure to provide such notice to the owner or lienholder.
