DAY CARE HOME. A home in which care is given to five or fewer children, not related to the operator by close ties of blood, marriage, or legal adoption, outside their own home during any part of the day.

DWELLING. A building or portion thereof which is designed or used as a place of residence for one or more families. The term includes one-family houses, two-family houses, multiple dwellings, apartment hotels, and mobile homes. The term does not include hotels, motels, or other similar establishments.

DWELLING, DETACHED. A dwelling which is surrounded on all sides by yards on the same lot or by streets or by such yards and streets.

DWELLING, ONE-FAMILY. A dwelling containing one dwelling unit. Similarly, a TWO-FAMILY DWELLING contains two dwelling units, and so forth.

DWELLING UNIT. One room, or rooms connected together, constituting a separate, independent housekeeping establishment for owner occupancy, or rental or lease on a weekly, monthly, or longer basis, and physically separated from any other rooms or dwelling units which may be in the same structure, and containing independent cooking and sleeping facilities. For the purpose of determining lot area requirements for group quarters, each five sleeping accommodations shall be treated as one DWELLING UNIT.
