There is hereby established a Department of Code Enforcement. The Department of Code Enforcement shall be dedicated to improving the health, safety and welfare of the City of Alton by maintaining, preserving and improving the City's physical structures and properties by enforcing Building and Housing Construction Codes, Life Safety Codes, Property Maintenance Codes, Accessibility Codes, together with the supervision of occupancy inspections and landlord licensing requirements. The Department of Code Enforcement shall be responsible for review, inspection and issuance of all permits relating to housing, building, sign and structure permits. The Department of Code Enforcement shall supervise all efforts to obtain the demolition of dangerous and unsafe structures found to be beyond reasonable repair. (Ord. 7664, 8-22-2018)
