3-4-5: CERTIFICATION:
   A.   If an applicant can provide proof that the state of Illinois recognizes the applicant's certification as an emergency medical technician--basic, a preference credit of three (3) points shall be added to the final grade evaluation of the applicant if that grade evaluation is seventy (70) or higher. If an applicant can provide proof that the state of Illinois recognizes the applicant's certification as an emergency medical technician-- paramedic, a paramedic preference credit of six (6) points shall be added to the final grade evaluation of the applicant if that grade evaluation is seventy (70) or higher. Total points to be added based on certification as an emergency medical technician shall not exceed six (6) points.
   B.   No individual may be certified for regular, full-time employment as a firefighter of the city unless he or she shall first be certified by the Illinois State Fire Marshal as a firefighter II, which requires successfully completing an approved training course as provided by 50 Illinois Compiled Statutes 740/1 through 740/15. Any firefighter who has not received the certification as aforesaid by the end of the twelve (12) month probationary period shall not be retained as an employee of the city but shall be terminated.
