No person shall be employed as a police officer for the city without having first applied for and having been accepted as a member of the police pension fund of the city. The city council hereby provides that it is a condition of employment with the Alton city police department that all Alton city police officers shall actively participate and become members of the police pension fund (municipalities 500,000 and under as provided in 40 Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/3-101 through 5/3-150). The failure of any police officer to participate in said pension fund shall be grounds for cause for removal from his position as an Alton city police officer. (Ord. 5279, 9-14-1988; amd.
