A park maintenance director shall be appointed by the mayor by and with the consent of the city council. The park maintenance director shall supervise the maintenance and control of all public parks, public squares, playgrounds, buildings and improvements thereon which constitute the parks and common grounds of the city. The park maintenance director shall be the responsible party for the day to day administration and supervision of the various employees and equipment utilized in the maintenance and improvement of the city parks and improvements thereon. The park maintenance director shall be qualified by education, knowledge and experience to organize and administer the activities determined to be appropriate by the director of public works to carry out the city's responsibilities to maintain and improve the city's parks and shall coordinate his activities and efforts with the executive director and the recreation director of the parks and recreation department of the city of Alton.
