12-5-4: SIDEWALKS:
Concrete sidewalks shall be constructed in accordance with applicable standard specifications of the City or at least to the standards listed below. Location of all sidewalks required under subsequent subsections of this Section should be shown in final plan.
   A.   Sidewalks should be of Portland cement concrete with a minimum thickness of four inches (4") on a four inch (4") gravel or crushed stone base and a minimum width of four feet (4'), and the edge of walks adjacent to the property line of the street should be placed at least one foot (1') from the property line.
   B.   Crosswalks within the blocks should be improved with a four foot (4') wide walk of either Portland cement concrete four inches (4") thick or asphalt concrete two inches (2") thick on four inch (4") compacted aggregate base. The base on an asphalt concrete walk should be extended beyond the sidewalk on either side to a distance of at least four inches (4").
   C.   Courtyards, courts and pedestrian walks in commercial and industrial developments may be constructed of any solid surface as long as that surface is smooth and presents no hazard to walking and so long as the standards of construction are no less than required above. The Department of Public Works shall approve the construction specifications for such surfaces. (Ord. 6104, 12-18-1996)
