§ 51.011 WATER SUPPLY FOR FIRE PROTECTION.
   (A)   General.
      (1)   All Class 1 structures or portions of Class 1 structures hereafter constructed shall be provided with a water supply capable of providing the required fire flow for fire-fighting purposes for a minimum of two hours. The water supply shall be from a source accepted by the rules of the FPBSC.
      (2)   In setting the requirements for fire flow, the Fire Chief, the Fire Marshal and/or his or her designee(s) shall use App. B, Fire-Flow Requirements for Buildings, of the current FPBSC adopted Fire Code.
   (B)   Water main sizes. Water main sizes shall be large enough to maintain the required fire-flow as set forth in this chapter and as required by the rules of the FPBSC.
      (1)   Six inch dead-end water mains that supply one fire hydrant shall not exceed 150 feet.
      (2)   An eight inch dead-end water main that supplies one fire hydrant shall not exceed 500 feet.
      (3)   A dead-end water main that supplies a fire sprinkler system (and/or a standpipe system) and two or three fire hydrants shall have a minimum inner diameter of eight inches.
      (4)   A fire service water main that supplies three or more fire hydrants shall be tapped off a distribution supply main in two separate areas (looped).
