(A) This chapter shall be administered and enforced by the Municipal Building Inspector. If the Building Inspector shall find that any of the provisions of this chapter are being violated, he shall notify in writing the person responsible for such violations, indicating the nature of the violation and ordering the action necessary to correct it. He shall order discontinuance of illegal use of land, buildings, or structures; removal of illegal buildings or of additions, alterations, or structural changes thereto; discontinuance of any illegal work being done; or shall take any other action authorized by this chapter to insure compliance with or to prevent violation of its provisions.
(B) (1) The Building Inspector and the Division of Land Use and Building shall be a part of the Public Works Department.
(2) The Inspector shall possess all the powers conferred and shall perform all the duties prescribed by G.S. § 160A-412 and other statutes applicable thereto. He shall possess such further power and perform such further duties as prescribed by the fire prevention regulations, zoning ordinances, pier and dock ordinances, the Coastal Area Management Act, and the minimum housing code of the town, and the like.
(3) The Building Inspector or his deputy shall have the right to enter, at all reasonable times, any building or premises within the town, without molestation, for the purpose of inspecting or in the performance of his duties. He shall inspect or cause to be inspected frequently all chimneys, flues, steam and fire openings within the town and may, when occasion requires, appoint deputies to perform any part of his duties.
