157.01 VACATIONS.
The following regulations shall govern vacations for all employees of the Village, excluding bargaining unit employees:
   (a)    Each employee who qualifies for a vacation shall take the time for which he or she is eligible in order to afford him or her an opportunity of rest and relaxation.
   (b)    Full-time employees shall earn and be entitled to paid vacation in accordance with the following schedule:
After completion of 1 year       Two weeks annually (80 hours)
After completion of 6 years       Three weeks annually (120 hours)
After completion of 12 years    Four weeks annually (160 hours)
After completion of 18 years    Four weeks annually (176 hours)
After completion of 24 years    Five weeks annually (200 hours).
   (c)    Part-time employees shall earn and be entitled to paid vacation at the rate of three (3) hours for each eighty (80) hours of service completed.
   (d)    Vacation time is earned based on time worked in the current year. It is eligible to be taken on or after January 1 of the succeeding year.
      (Ord. 2021-72. Passed 12-8-21.)
   (e)   Vacation leave cannot be accumulated. If it is not taken in the calendar year it falls due, it shall be deemed forfeited. However, in cases of emergency or unusual circumstances requiring an employee to work during his or her vacation periods, the Mayor has the option to authorize the employee to receive compensation for the time he or she would have had as vacation, or authorize the employee to carry over his or her unused vacation time to the following year. If an employee is authorized to carry over his or her unused vacation time, it must be used by March 31 of the following year or it shall be deemed forfeited. (Ord. 2022-114. Passed 12-14-22.)
   (f)   If an employee is discharged, he or she retains his or her earned vacation leave and vacation pay.
   (g)   If an employee voluntarily terminates his or her employment he or she shall be paid for any vacation leave due.
   (h)   An employee wishing to use his vacation leave must submit at least a week in advance a written request for such leave to his immediate superior, who, in turn, shall advise the Mayor of the request. When, in the direction of the Mayor, an employee's absence would be detrimental to the Village, the Mayor may deny the request and authorize payment for any vacation leave earned and, as a result of a denial, not used.
   (i)   In time of an emergency, as determined by the Mayor, the Mayor shall have the authority to suspend or postpone vacation leave.
      (Ord. 2021-72. Passed 12-8-21.)
