147.05 EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN.
   (a)   There is hereby established an Emergency Medical Technician Unit within the Fire Department of the Village of Woodmere. The Emergency Medical Technician Unit shall be composed of up to a maximum of thirty-five members.
   (b)   The members of the Emergency Medical Technician Unit shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Mayor. The Fire Chief shall be responsible for the overall supervision of the Emergency Medical Technician Unit and shall have control of the assignment, training, stationing and direction of work for the members of the unit.
   (c)   All services performed by the Emergency Medical Technician Unit members shall be on a voluntary basis and no member shall be entitled to any benefits or relief or pension funds of the Village with the State of Ohio or any other similar benefit.
   (d)   The members of the Emergency Medical Technician Unit shall receive such compensation as Council shall designate in its wage ordinances including the following:
      (1)   Each member shall be paid the fixed sum when responding and transporting for each ambulance run when not connected with a fire call.
      (2)   Each member shall receive compensation at a fixed rate per hour for service on ambulance runs in connection with fire calls. Each member shall be paid a minimum of one hour at the fixed hourly rate for the first hour or any portion thereof and shall be paid for all time for service after the first hour at the fixed hourly rate.
      (3)   Each member shall receive compensation at a fixed rate per hour for time expended in training at Village Hall to maintain certification as an emergency medical technician.
      (4)   Each member shall receive compensation at a fixed rate required to remain at the fire station on standby for emergency medical services.
   (e)   Applicants for Emergency Medical Technician must have and maintain a current Ohio EMT, National Registry and CPR Certificate.
   (f)   To maintain active EMS status, members of the Emergency Medical Technician Unit must:
      (1)   Work a minimum of forty hours station time per month unless an exception is granted by the Fire Chief; and
      (2)   Attend at least fifty percent (50%) of the monthly EMS In Service Training Sessions.
