Required means of egress to the exterior from each dwelling unit shall be unobstructed and shall lead directly to the exterior at ground level and upon a safe and open space leading directly to the street or yard or shall open upon a hall, corridor, or public area of the building as provided herein, with direct access to the exterior of the building at ground level.
