§ 151.006 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   ACCESSORY STRUCTURE. A building which use is incidental to that of the main building and which is located upon the same lot.
   ACCESSORY USE. An occupancy use incidental to the principal use of a building as defined or limited by provisions of the zoning chapter.
   ADDITION. An extension or increase in floor area or height of a building or structure.
   ALTERATIONS. A change or rearrangement in the structural parts or exit facilities of a building or structure, or an enlargement by extending the exterior walls or by increasing the height, or by moving from one location or position to another.
   APARTMENT. One or more rooms comprising a dwelling unit or serving as the home or residence of an individual, or a family or household.
   APARTMENT BUILDING. A building or structure containing more than two dwelling units or apartments.
   APPROVED. The approval of the Building Official or other authority having jurisdiction.
   APPURTENANT STRUCTURE. A device or structure attached to the exterior or erected on the roof of a building.
   ATTIC. The space between the ceiling joists of the top habitable story and the roof rafters.
   BALCONY, EXTERIOR. An appurtenance to a structure supported on the structural members of the building extending beyond the main walls of the building more than four feet above grade.
   BASEMENT. That portion of a building partly underground, and having more than one-half of its clear height above the average grade of the adjoining ground.
   BUILDING. A structure enclosed within exterior walls built, erected, and framed of component structural parts and designed for the housing, shelter, enclosure, and support of individuals, animals, or property of any kind.
   BUILDING CODE. The regulations and amendments thereto regulating building construction within the village, and includes the plumbing code, electrical code, heating code, and amendments thereto.
   BUILDING LINE. The line or limits established by law beyond which the building or structure shall not extend.
   BUILDING OFFICIAL. The officer or other designated authority charged with enforcement of this chapter.
   CELLAR. That portion of a building wholly or partly underground and having one-half or more
of its clear height below the average grade of the adjoining ground.
   CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY. The certificate issued by the building official which permits the use of a building or structure in accordance with approved plans and specifications and which certified compliance with provisions of law for the use and occupancy of the building in its several parts together with any special stipulations or conditions of the building permit.
   CHANGE OF USE. An alteration by change of use or occupancy of a building heretofore existing to a new use group which imposes other special provisions of law governing building construction, equipment, or exits.
   CORRIDOR. An enclosed passageway leading to a means of legal egress.
   DORMITORY. A building arranged for lodging individuals and having common toilet and bathroom facilities.
   DUPLEX. A building containing two dwelling units located on a single level and completely separated by a party wall or located on separate floors with complete separation.
   DWELLING, ONE-FAMILY. A building containing one dwelling unit.
   DWELLING, TWO-FAMILY. A building containing two dwelling units completely separated by a party wall or floor and ceiling and containing separate toilet, bathing, and cooking facilities.
   DWELLING UNIT. One or more rooms arranged for use of one or more individuals living together as a family, with cooking, living, sanitary, and sleeping facilities.
   ELECTRICAL CODE. The regulations and amendments thereto regulating the installations of electrical equipment, appliances, wiring, and power in buildings.
   ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR. The official or other designated authority charged with the enforcement of provisions of the electrical code.
   ELECTRICAL SERVICE EQUIPMENT. The equipment located at a point of entrance of supply conductors to a building which constitutes the main control of supply and cut-off of electricity and including circuit breakers, switches, fuses, wiring, and electrical accessories.
   EXIT. A continuous and unobstructed means of egress to a public way, and shall include intervening doorways, corridors, ramps, stairways, smokeproof towers, horizontal exits, exterior courts, and yards.
   EXTERMINATION. The process of ridding the premises or building of insects or rodents.
   FAMILY. One or more persons related by blood or marriage, or not more than three persons not related by blood or marriage, living together as a single housekeeping unit.
   FIRE CHIEF. The official or other designated authority charged with enforcement of fire prevention and safety regulations and ordinances.
   FLOOR AREA. The area included within surrounding walls of a building or portion thereof exclusive of vent shafts and courts.
   GARBAGE. The animal and vegetable waste resulting from the handling, preparation, cooking, and consumption of food.
   GUEST. Any person hiring or occupying a room for living or sleeping purposes.
   HABITABLE ROOM. A room or enclosed floor space used or intended to be used for living, sleeping, cooking, or eating purposes.
   HEALTH OFFICER. The official or other designated authority charged with enforcement of health regulations and ordinances.
   HEATING INSPECTOR. The official or other designated authority charged with enforcement or ordinances regulating the installation and operation of heating equipment in building.
   HOTEL. Any building containing six or more rooms and intended or designed to be used, rented, or hired out to be occupied by guests for sleeping purposes.
   INFESTATION. The presence, within or around a dwelling or dwelling unit of insects, rodents, or other pests.
   LOT. A portion or parcel of land considered as a unit.
   LOT LINE. The line dividing one lot from another, or from the street or other public space.
   MIXED OCCUPANCY USES. The use of a building structure or premises thereof by more than one distinct occupancy classification.
   MULTIPLE DWELLING. Any building containing more than two dwelling units.
   OCCUPANCY. The purpose for which a building is used or intended to be used, and a change of occupancy is not intended to include change of tenants or proprietors.
   OCCUPANT. Any person living, sleeping, cooking, or eating in, or having actual possession of a dwelling or rooming unit.
   OPERATOR. Any person who has charge, care, or control of a building or part thereof in which dwelling or rooming units are let.
   OWNER. Any person who, alone or jointly or severally with others, shall have legal title to any dwelling or dwelling unit, with or without accompanying actual possession thereof; or, shall have charge, care, or control of any dwelling or dwelling unit as owner, as agent of the owner, or as executor, administrator, trustee, or guardian of the estate of the owner.
   PLUMBING. Includes, but shall not be limited to, gas pipes, gas-burning equipment, water pipes, garbage disposal units, waste pipes, water closets, sinks, installed dishwashers, lavatories, bathtubs, shower baths, installed clothes-washing machines, catch basins, drains, vents and similar fixtures, septic tanks and water wells, and all connections to water, sewer, and gas lines.
   PLUMBING INSPECTOR. The official or other designated authority charged with enforcement of ordinances regulating plumbing.
   ROOMING HOUSE. Any dwelling, or portion thereof, containing one or more rooming units in which space is let by the owner or operator to three or more persons not related by blood or marriage to the owner or operator.
   ROOMING UNIT. Any room or enclosure or group of rooms forming a single habitable unit used or intended to be used for living or sleeping.
   RUBBISH. Combustible or non-combustible waste materials and shall include ashes and discarded papers, wood, metals, glass, or tree limbs among others.
   SUPPLIED. Paid for, furnished, or provided by or under control of the owner or operator.
