The term "stripping" or "strip mining method" as used in this chapter means all or any part of the process followed in the production of coal from a natural coal deposit whereby the coal may be extracted after removing the overburden therefrom or the removing of overburden for the purpose of determining the location, quality or quantity of a natural coal deposit as well as any mining of coal by the auger method or any similar method which penetrates a coal seam and removes coal therefrom directly through a series of openings made by such machine which enter such coal seam from a surface excavation.
