§ 70.02 WEIGHT LIMITS.
   Police officers of the city, having reason to believe that the weight of any motor vehicle operating on a city-maintained street is in excess of 36,000 pounds per axle, gross weight, may weigh it by portable scales. If the officer shall determine that the operation of the motor vehicle was unlawful, he or she shall require that the operator of same unload such portion of the load as may be necessary to decrease the gross weight of the vehicle to the limit of 36,000 pounds per axle, gross weight. The excess load shall be unloaded at the sole risk of the owner.
