5-1-4: CHIEF OF POLICE:
The Chief of Police shall be appointed, discharged and/or removed in the manner set forth in section 2-4-8 of this Code. (Ord. 82-O-48, 10-11-1982; amd. Ord. 87-O-38, 9-14-1987)
The Chief of Police is the Chief Executive Officer of the department and the final departmental authority on all matters of policy, operations and discipline. He is responsible for the planning, directing, coordinating, controlling and staffing of all activities of the department; for its command and efficient operation; for the enforcement of the rules and regulations within the department; and, for the department's relations with the citizens of the Village, the Village government and other agencies; and the successful accomplishment of the mission of the department. These responsibilities are met under the general direction of the Chief of Police.
The Chief of Police shall be responsible to the Village Administrator for the discharge of duties and responsibilities herein conferred. (Ord. 82-O-48, 10-11-1982)
