1501.22 MASTER KEYS; KNOX BOXES.

(a) General Requirement. When required by the Chief, all newly constructed buildings and buildings remodeling to an extent greater than fifty percent (50%), except one- (1), two- (2), and three- (3) family dwellings shall be provided with a Knox Box.

(b) Buildings with Elevators. All existing buildings equipped with elevators shall be provided with a Knox Box.

(1) Knox Boxes shall be provided with master keys, elevator service keys, and other keys necessary for access to all portions of the premises.

(2) In new construction the Knox Box and keys shall be provided prior to Occupancy and/or final inspection.

(3) The Knox Box location shall be approved by the Chief.

(4) In buildings equipped with elevators the Knox Box shall contain one (1) set of access keys for each floor.
