(a) The Bureau of Fire Prevention in the Division of Fire is hereby established, and shall be operated under the supervision of the Chief of Fire (hereinafter, "Chief").
(b) The Chief in charge of the Bureau of Fire Prevention (hereinafter, "Fire Marshal"), shall be appointed by the Director of Public Safety on the basis of qualifications. The Fire Marshal's appointment shall continue during good behavior and satisfactory service.
(c) No person shall serve as Fire Marshal unless he/she has received a certificate issued by the Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction under Ohio R.C. 3303.07 evidencing his/her satisfactory completion of a fire inspection training program. Upon such certification, the individual shall be a certified Fire Safety Inspector.
(d) The Chief may detail members of the Division of Fire as Fire Safety Inspector, and such members may, under the direction of the Fire Marshal, assist in the enforcement of the Fire Prevention Code. Such members shall have received a certificate issued by the Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction under Ohio R.C. 3303.07 evidencing their satisfactory completion of a fire inspection training program. Upon such certification, the individuals shall be certified Fire Safety Inspectors or Hazard Recognition Officers.
(e) The Chief may recommend to the Director of Public Safety the employment of nonmembers of the Division of Fire as inspectors, who, when authorization is made, shall be selected through and examination as necessary to determine their fitness for the position. Such inspectors shall have received a certification issued by the Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction under Ohio R.C. 3303.07 evidencing their satisfactory completion of a fire inspection training program.
