§ 52.05 INTERCEPTOR MAINTENANCE.
   (A)   Grease traps are interceptors designed to capture separable fats, oils, and greases generated in food service facilities. The user of a grease trap must establish an appropriate maintenance schedule that includes: pumping of the entire contents of the tank; cleaning the walls of the tank; inspecting the inlet and outlet piping; and the integrity of the baffles. In no case shall the maintenance schedule be less than one servicing every six months without written approval of the City Code Enforcement Officer.
   (B)   Grit traps are interceptors designed to capture sand and grit. Grit traps are usually used in car washes and automotive and machinery repair shops. Grit traps may be included in oil/water separators. The grit trap user is required to establish an appropriate maintenance schedule that includes the removal of all sand, gravel, grit, and oil from the interceptor. In no case shall the maintenance schedule be less than once per year without written approval of the City Code Enforcement Officer.
   (C)   Oil/water separators are interceptors designed to separate petroleum based oils from the wastewater. Oil/water separators are usually used in car washes and automotive and machinery repair shops. The oil/water separator user is required to establish an appropriate maintenance schedule that includes the removal of all fluids and sludge from the separator. In no case shall the maintenance schedule be less than once per year without written approval of the City Code Enforcement Officer.
   (D)   Lint traps are interceptors designed to separate textile lint from the wastewater. Lint traps are usually used in laundries. Lint traps are usually manually cleaned by the business operator. Lint trap users must establish an appropriate maintenance schedule that removes the trapped lint to prevent sewer backups.
