There is hereby created a law enforcement unit to be known and designated as the Auxiliary Police Unit of the Town of Wilkesboro, which unit shall consist of a number of members as the Board of Commissioners may from time to time determine. The members of the unit shall be subordinate to the members of the regular Police Department and shall take the oath of office as prescribed by law. They shall be vested with all of the powers of arrest vested in regular police officers under the laws of the state and ordinances of the town. The members of the auxiliary police unit shall operate under rules and regulations promulgated pursuant to § 32.027, a copy of which will be furnished each member of the unit.
